Armed Forces Programme

Betknowmore UKs armed forces programme is tackling the hidden harms of gambling. That community includes cadets, serving personnel, veterans and their colleagues, friends and family. Gambling harms can affect anyone, tearing families apart, straining finances and taking a devastating toll on mental health. But there is hope. We are a leading provider of gambling support and help to the military and the wider armed forces community.

The programme was set up specifically to address why gambling harm is often hidden and compounded by the uniqueness of the military environment. We aim to reduce the number of people within the armed forces community impacted by gambling harms and increase the number accessing support by raising awareness, providing early interventions, and education. The programme has adopted a public health approach to tackle gambling harms.

Betknowmore UK has a two-tiered approach which applies the every contact counts methodology to equip those within the community with the skills, attitudes, knowledge, and confidence to better identify gambling harms and provide early interventions to prevent the escalation of harm.

Don’t gamble with military health

Betknowmore UK is proud to support the armed forces community with the Don’t gamble with military health programme. This programme provides free training for professionals supporting the armed forces community, and free and confidential specialist treatment and support for any currently serving personnel or veterans who may be experiencing gambling harms. As part of this programme, we also offer free treatment and 1 to 1 practical support for those affected by somebody else’s gambling and a wide range of aftercare programmes to support recovery.

The Don’t gamble with military health educational offer includes specific content explaining why there is a prevalence within armed forces of gambling harms, alongside examining the impact of gambling, the commercial determinants of health, how to identify harms in serving personal and veterans, and the help and specialist support available.

Betknowmore UK offers free, short briefing sessions online or in person and a full day training session, accredited by the Royal Society of Public Health, to any organisations or individuals supporting the armed forces community.
