New Beginnings Supporter

Betknowmore UK are looking for a woman who can support women on their journey to recovery from gambling harm, in a role that combines group facilitation, one-to-one support and aftercare.

This role is restricted to women under the Equality Act 2010 (Schedule 9, Part 1), as a genuine occupational requirement given the nature of the support provided by this women-only service.

Job description

Support women on their journey to recovery from gambling harm, in a role that combines group facilitation, one-to-one support and aftercare.

At Betknowmore UK, we work to prevent and reduce gambling-related harm through support, education, training and community engagement, embracing the insight and knowledge of 'Experts by Experience' alongside evidence-based approaches. As our New Beginnings Supporter, you'll help deliver and develop New Beginnings, our women-only service providing a safe and supportive space for women affected by gambling harm. You'll facilitate structured group programmes, one-to-one support, health and wellbeing groups and ongoing aftercare.

Reporting to the New Beginnings Service Manager, you'll manage an allocated caseload from onboarding through to aftercare, maintaining accurate support plans and records throughout. You'll also support the day-to-day running of the service, deputising for the Service Manager in agreed areas and providing support to colleagues in their absence.

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting the delivery and development of New Beginnings, facilitating group programmes and health and wellbeing activities
  • Managing an allocated caseload from onboarding through programme participation and aftercare, providing one-to-one support where appropriate
  • Developing and reviewing support plans with participants, maintaining regular contact and monitoring engagement, progress and outcomes
  • Identifying changes in need or risk and escalating concerns appropriately, and maintaining accurate, up-to-date participant records
  • Providing signposting and onward referrals, and supporting participants to access ongoing aftercare
  • Taking part in outreach activity to promote New Beginnings and build awareness of the service, including at events, workshops and community engagement activity
  • Supporting the day-to-day running of New Beginnings, deputising for the Service Manager in agreed areas and acting as a point of contact for colleagues when required
  • Helping maintain continuity of service delivery during periods of Service Manager absence, escalating matters requiring management input

We're interested in hearing from candidates who have:

  • Lived experience of gambling-related harm, directly or as an affected other
  • Experience working in a support, health, social care, addiction or community setting
  • A good understanding of gambling harm and the role of lived experience in recovery
  • The ability to manage an allocated caseload and maintain accurate records
  • Confidence supporting individuals in both group and one-to-one settings
  • Knowledge of safeguarding adults, with the ability to recognise risk and escalate concerns appropriately
  • The ability to work independently, prioritise your own workload, and support and guide colleagues when required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work positively as part of a team
  • Confidence using IT systems and common software packages, with the ability to learn organisational systems effectively

Experience of group facilitation, mentoring colleagues or volunteers, familiarity with CRM or case-management systems, or experience of outreach work would be advantageous, as would a relevant qualification in health, social care or community support.

Why join us?

You'll be joining a dedicated, values-led team making a real difference to women affected by gambling harm. This is a chance to shape the ongoing development of New Beginnings, bring your own insight and lived experience to a growing service, and play a hands-on role supporting women through every stage of their recovery.
