Betknowmore UK and GamCare have launched a new peer support service called Peer Aid. The service provides 1:1 and group support to individuals harmed by gambling. Peer Aid aims to ensure that, through early engagement and intervention, individuals receive the appropriate support to address their specific needs.
The service is integrated with the GamCare national treatment service, with peer support offered before, during and after treatment.
Betknowmore UK, in partnership with GamCare, are piloting a new peer support service for those affected by gambling harms across London and the South East. This service is called Peer Aid. Gambling problems and dependency can create challenging and complex issues in someone’s life – you may experience relationship issues, impacts on your finances and on your mental and physical health.
Many clients have fed back that a key part of their journey of recovery is connecting with others in similar situations in order to share experiences and support one another. Peer Aid is designed, developed and delivered by individuals with lived experience of gambling harms to help this happen.
The service will be able to provide both one to one and group support to complement the support and treatment you receive from GamCare. The Peer Aid team are on hand to make sure you get the most from your treatment plan, have the chance to address your specific concerns, and build a strong foundation for recovery going forward. Peer Aid is focused on inspiring hope for those starting their journey of recovery.
For more information, or to have a confidential discussion about your situation, contact Matt Blanks the Peer Aid Service Manager via matt@peeraid.org.
Peer Aid is a new service that is providing one to one and group support to individuals harmed by gambling (alongside the support and treatment they receive from GamCare) by connecting them to Peer Supporters who have personal experience of gambling harms and have moved into recovery. The programme aims to ensure that individuals receive holistic support to both address their immediate specific needs and to help them build a strong foundation for recovery going forward.
The Peer Aid team is focused on inspiring hope for those starting their journey of recovery, based on shared experiences and insight.
Peer Aid is designed, developed and delivered by individuals with lived experience of gambling harms. We hope that this will provide those in need with the confidence and motivation to reach out for help. We know from our own experiences that barriers such as stigma and shame can prevent that call for help. We are determined to tackle each and every one.
Free training is provided to achieve the Level 2 Award in Gambling Peer Support, accredited by NCFE, as well as support for your own developmental goals.
